  Samarkand State Medical University (SSMU) is committed to integrating sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into our academic offerings, providing students with the knowledge and skills to address global challenges. We offer dedicated courses, both as full degree programs and electives, that focus on the principles of sustainability, public health, environmental science, and social responsibility, ensuring that students from all disciplines have the opportunity to engage deeply with the SDGs.

  Degree Programs with an SDG Focus

  Our specialized degree programs incorporate sustainability and SDG-related themes to prepare students for careers that promote positive societal and environmental impact: Bachelor of Public Health and Sustainable Development: This program focuses on the intersections between public health, environmental factors, and sustainable development, emphasizing practical solutions to global health and sustainability challenges. Master’s in Global Health and SDG Policy: This advanced degree equips students with policy and research skills to address SDG-related health disparities and to design programs that improve healthcare access, quality, and equity on a global scale.

  SDG-Focused Electives Available to All Students

  In addition to full degree programs, SSMU offers elective courses that address various aspects of the SDGs, providing interdisciplinary perspectives that are relevant to all fields of study: Elective Course in Sustainable Healthcare Practices: This course explores sustainable healthcare approaches, covering topics like waste reduction, eco-friendly medical practices, and sustainable resource management in healthcare. Introduction to Environmental Health and Climate Action: Open to students across disciplines, this course examines the impact of climate change on health and explores strategies for building climate resilience in medical and public health fields.

  Experiential Learning and Fieldwork Opportunities

  To provide students with hands-on experience, our SDG-related courses include fieldwork, research projects, and practical case studies: Students have the chance to participate in community health initiatives, working alongside local organizations to address health inequalities and environmental challenges. This elective engages students in real-world case studies focused on SDG topics such as water sanitation, maternal health, and sustainable cities, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings.

  Collaborative SDG Research Seminars

  SSMU also offers research seminars that encourage students to explore topics related to the SDGs: Seminar in Global Health and SDG Innovation: This seminar is designed for students interested in research, exploring innovative approaches to global health issues, and fostering an interdisciplinary approach to SDG challenges. Environmental Sustainability Research Lab: Open to students from various programs, this lab focuses on environmental health and sustainable resource management, offering research opportunities in fields such as water conservation, pollution reduction, and sustainable agriculture.
