Samarkand State Medical University’s 2023 Progress on SDG 13

  Samarkand State Medical University (SSMU) is committed to addressing the global climate crisis by actively supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 (SDG 13): Climate Action. Through education, research, and operational sustainability, we aim to mitigate the effects of climate change and inspire action within our university community and beyond. In 2023, we documented and published our progress toward SDG 13 to demonstrate our dedication to fostering a sustainable future.

  Renewable Energy Integration: Installed solar panels on campus buildings, reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources and decreasing carbon emissions by 30%. Energy Efficiency Upgrades: Upgraded campus infrastructure with energy-efficient lighting, HVAC systems, and smart energy management technologies, achieving a 25% reduction in energy consumption. Sustainable Transportation Initiatives: Encouraged the use of bicycles, carpooling, and public transportation among students and staff to minimize carbon emissions.

  Climate Action Curriculum: Integrated climate change topics into academic programs to educate students on its impact and inspire sustainable practices. Workshops and Campaigns: Organized climate awareness workshops, conferences, and campaigns for students, faculty, and the local community, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility. Youth-Led Initiatives: Supported student-led projects and organizations focused on climate advocacy and sustainability initiatives.
