HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Surgery, Endoscopy and Anesthesiology - Reanimatology of the Faculty of Postgraduate Education of the Samarkand State Medical Institute was founded in 1983. The founder and first head of the department, at that time the chief surgeon of the region, candidate of medical sciences, was Docent A.I. Sidorenko (1983-1988).

At that time, the department was located on the basis of the surgical department of Samarkand City Clinical Hospital No. 1. After this, the department was transferred for some time to the base of the surgical department.
In 1997, the department was transferred to the base of the surgical department of the Regional United Hospital No. 1. Since 2000, the base of the department until now has been the Samarkand branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Care.

From the beginning of the 2004-2005 academic year, the department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor J.A. Akhtamov. At the same time, he was the director of the Samarkand branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Assistance.
In 1996, J. A. Akhtamov was one of the first in the country to found a multifunctional center for endoscopic surgery at Samarkand City Clinical Hospital No. 1 and began working as the head of this department. Since 2002, this department has the status of a Regional Endosurgery Center.

J.A. Akhtamov was one of the first in the country to put into practiceendoscopic operations on the abdominal organs, pelvis and urinary tract.
In 1996, he founded the Ibn Sina Foundation for the Promotion of Medical Technologies and the scientific and practical journal “Bulletin of the General Practitioner,” which was regularly published through this foundation. He was the deputy editor-in-chief of this magazine on a voluntary basis. At the same time, he worked as the executive secretary of the journal “Surgery of Uzbekistan”. Professor J.A. Akhtamov made a huge contribution to the development of endoscopic surgery in Samarkand and the Republic of Uzbekistan. Under his leadership, in the Samarkand branch of the Russian Research Center for Medical Treatment, such treatment methods were introduced into practice as: the use of polypropylene meshes in the treatment of large, giant and postoperative recurrent hernias of the anterior abdominal wall, the “Damage” methodcontrol "for traumatic injuries of parenchymal organs of the abdominal cavity, the "Programmed laparostomy" method in the treatment of severe and advanced peritonitis, conservative therapy for traumatic injuries of parenchymal organs of the abdominal cavity.

In 1974, he was awarded the “Excellence in Health Care” badge.
Since 1984 Associate Professor. The contribution he makes to the education of youth is enormous, serving as an example to follow. Sanat Inoyatovich is an innovator and initiator of many innovations and good undertakings in the public life of the institute. He is one of the founders in the introduction of laparoscopy in Samarkand for differential diagnostic purposes.
S.I. Narzullaev generously shares his experiences and wealth of knowledge with young doctors, helps them develop a new worldview and introduces them to new technologies in the field of surgery.
Participated in a number of scientific and scientific-practical international and republican conferences. He has published more than 200 scientific papers, 20 educational and teaching aids.
Recognition of his great merits and contribution to the protection of the health of citizens is the fact that, in connection with the 90th anniversary of the Samarkand Medical Institute, he was awarded the “Excellence in Health Care” badge for the second time.

Kurbanov Nizom Azizocic defended his PhD thesis in 2022. During his work, he took part in international scientific and practical conferences in our Republic and abroad. Published more than 100 scientific, 10 educational and educational works, many innovation proposals and patents.
SPIRITUAL AND EDUCATIONAL WORK OF THE DEPARTMENT
Doctors are recognized in society as a full-fledged, harmoniously mature personality. Caring for the younger generation, the desire to educate a healthy, harmonious personality is one of the features of the national character of the Uzbek people. Therefore, spiritual and educational work is the most important activity of the Department of Surgery, Endoscopy, Anesthesiology and Resuscitation of the FPDO. Spiritual and educational work at the department is carried out according to the approved plan. This work is coordinated and organized by the head of the department, associate professor Narzullaev S.I. and responsible teacher for spiritual and educational work Elmuradov G.K.

EDUCATIONAL AND METHODOLOGICAL WORK
Training at the department is carried out on the basis of the following approved regulatory documents:

- Specialization “General Surgery” – 504 credits (5 months)
- Specialization “Fibroendoscopy” – 288 credits (2 months)
- Specialization “Emergency Medical Care - 103” – 216 credits (1.5 months)
- General advanced training – 144 credits
- Thematic advanced training – 36, 72 credits
The staff of the department includes the head of the department, candidate of medical sciences, associate professor - 3, candidate of medical sciences, assistant - 4 and 1 assistant. All conditions at the department and the base where the department is located are sufficient for conducting the educational process taking into account modern requirements. Classes are equipped with modern teaching equipment. One of the main tasks of the department staff is the use of modern educational technologies in the educational process. The main goal is to increase the level of knowledge of each student on each topic, to teach a deep practical approach to modern diagnostic and treatment technologies.
Currently, every year, employees of the department organize visiting cycles to neighboring regions, where they provide practical assistance to the local population in the use of the latest achievements of medicine (Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, Bukhara, Navoi, Khorezm and Jizzakh regions). During these periods, practical seminars on current medical problems are also held together with other specialists.
As part of academic mobility, department employees conducted classes at leading universities of the Russian Federation.
Over the past 5 years, employees of the department have published more than 3 textbooks, 3 monographs and more than 7 educational and methodological developments.
SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH WORKS
In 2023, the department had 9 employees. 7 employees – candidates of medical sciences; 2 employees – ungraded. The scientific competence of the department is 77.7%.
The scientific direction of the department is devoted to the treatment of burns, as well as the treatment of joint injuries of the chest and abdominal organs.
In the 2022-2023 academic year, professors and teachers of the department defended 3 candidate dissertations. 45 (5 guidelines and recommendations, 4 reviews, 2 rationalization proposals, 20 articles and 14 theses) scientific papers have been published. Of the published works in Scopus and Web of Science - 5 articles, 6 articles and 7 theses in foreign and MD publications, 4 articles and 12 theses in republican publications.
During the year, employees of the department took part in 3 international scientific conferences and were awarded certificates.
The department employs clinical residents and master's students. Clinical residents and undergraduates are engaged in scientific research in accordance with the scientific direction of the department.

SCIENTIFIC COMPLETION
Organization of scientific-research activities of students in the "Social and Humanities" department, meetings of the scientific circle of students called "Young Spiritualists", scientific-practical conferences of international and republican students held at Samarkand State Medical University is done by holding separate branch meetings. Students prepare research papers on current problems of socio-humanitarian knowledge, philosophical, methodological and bioethical problems of modern medicine for republican competitions of research works.
All students who are interested in the socio-humanitarian problems of medical knowledge and activity, the department calls for cooperation, encouraging the achievements of the members of the club.
Suyunova Kamilla Bahramovna, the leading teacher responsible for the activity of the club, is currently a major doctoral student and the author of more than 100 scientific works.
Junior course captain: F. Olimjonova, 3rd-year student of the Faculty of Medicine and Pedagogy, author and co-author of 30 scientific articles, winner of the 1st level diploma of the "We are against corruption" contest, holder of the Rector's scholarship.

The internationalist goals of Samarkand State Medical University are based on the concept of development of the institute and are aimed at strengthening its place in the world of international education. The main international advantages are an increase in the number of students from abroad, the development of joint projects with foreign universities and research centers, an increase in the number of researchers and teachers teaching in foreign universities, joint programs with foreign higher education institutions, which allow the release of two joint programs.
Samarkand State Medical University develops relations with more than 60 state and international organizations, foreign universities and research centers with participants in international cooperation in the field of education and science on the basis of equality. The development of dialogues on cooperation with universities in Europe, Asia, North America and the CIS is based on joint programs and educational mobility.
Every year the number of highly qualified foreign specialists, professors, students and researchers visiting SamDTU in order to establish dialogues on cooperation, training, advanced training, and participation in scientific conferences increases.
Teachers of the department take an active part in international symposiums and conferences.
This academic year, the head of the department is Kurbanov N.A. in order to implement academic mobility, he visited the federal state budgetary educational institution of higher education “Volga Region Research State University” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
