On February 24, a delegation from Plymouth University (UK) visited Samarkand State Medical University. The guests were received by Vice-Rector for International Cooperation Z.Z.Aminov.
As part of the visit, a meeting was held to discuss the prospects for bilateral scientific and practical cooperation, the organization of academic exchange between students and teachers, as well as the development of joint educational programs in the field of immunology, neurosurgery and rehabilitation.

The university was founded in 1862 as the Plymouth Naval School. In 1920 it became a university college, and in 1970 it became a Polytechnic, also incorporating Rolla College, Exmouth, Exeter College of Art and Design and Hain College. In 1992 it was granted university status.
