This means:Guaranteed Protection: Anyone who reports discrimination, whether related to ethnicity, gender, disability, religion, or other factors, is assured protection from any adverse impact on their academic or employment standing. Anonymous Reporting Options: To further support a safe reporting process, SSMU offers anonymous reporting channels, allowing individuals to report concerns without revealing their identity if they choose.

 Confidential Reporting and Investigation Process

To protect the privacy and integrity of those involved in discrimination reports, SSMU ensures a confidential and transparent process: All reports of discrimination are handled with strict confidentiality through our Office of Equity and Inclusion, which is specially trained to manage these cases sensitively and professionally. All reports are reviewed by an impartial team trained in non-discriminatory practices and equipped to assess the issue thoroughly while respecting the rights of all parties.

 Assistance and Support for Complainants

We understand that reporting discrimination can be challenging, which is why SSMU offers support services to help individuals throughout the process: Access to Counseling Services: Complainants can access counseling and mental health support to help them manage the emotional impact of discrimination and reporting.   SSMU’s policy ensures that cases are handled transparently, with follow-up actions to ensure protection and accountability: Regular Check-Ins: After a report is filed, the university conducts follow-up meetings with the complainant to ensure their educational or employment standing remains unaffected. Policy Review and Updates: The Protection Policy for Reporting Discrimination is reviewed regularly to stay aligned with best practices, ensuring continuous support and protection for our university community.
