The 1st ELSA Spring Congress 2023 "Minimally Invasive Surgery in Silk Road" was held in Samarkand

  On April 27-29, the 1st Spring Congress of the Society of Endoscopic and Laporoscopic Surgeons of Asia (ELSA) 2023 "Minimally Invasive Silk Road Surgery" was held in Samarkand.

  ELSA is an international reputable society and one of the founders of the International Federation of Endoscopic Surgeons Societies (IFSES), whose governing body consists of representatives of leading endoscopic surgeons from 37 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. ELSA coordinates the efforts of scientists from different countries in the development of minimally invasive and laporoscopic surgery, implements grant programs and organizes seminars to support young specialists from Asian countries.

  The Congress in Samarkand was attended by leading scientists from Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, South Korea, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Japan, India, Yemen, Turkey, Hong Kong, Oman, UAE, Russia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, as well as more than 400 specialists in the field of minimally invasive surgery, urology, oncology, gynecology and pediatric surgery from all regions of our republic

  On the first day of the Congress, Samarkand State Medical University Specialized Pediatric Surgical Clinic hosted a seminar on the latest advances in minimally invasive surgery, as well as online broadcast operations. In total, 14 surgical interventions were performed within the framework of the Congress with the participation of invited foreign specialists.

  On April 28, the opening ceremony of the international congress was held at the Samarkand International Tourism Center. Representatives of the Ministry of Health of the Republic, khokimiyats of the Samarkand region, Samarkand State Medical University and the Society of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (ELSA) spoke here. The speakers noted that this international forum, organized for the first time in Central Asia, is the result of the great attention currently paid to the medical field in the republic.

  During the official ceremony of the congress, the honorary president of the Congress, the famous Samarkand surgeon, Professor Azamat Shamsiev, in his welcoming speech, stressed that the holding of the congress of the Asian Society of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons in Uzbekistan is of historical importance for the medicine of the republic.

  Within the framework of the Congress, famous scientists and professors delivered their lectures on the scientific fields of gastrointestinal surgery, elastic endoscopy, hepatobiliary surgery, colorectal surgery, abdominal wall surgery, video assisted thoracic surgery, minimally invasive pediatric surgery, bariatric surgery, robotic surgery. In addition, more than 50 scientists from different countries took part with their poster lectures.

  Samarkand surgeons became members of the Society of Endoscopic and Laporoscopic Surgeons of Asia in 2016, and holding a special spring ELSA conference in our country, in the city of Samarkand, is important for the medicine of our country. Today, minimally invasive surgery is gaining popularity in world medicine and behind it the future of surgery. I am glad that this area is actively developing in our republic.
