On 20-21 May 2022 Samarkand State Medical University held traditional 76th International scientific-practical conference of students and young scientists "Achievements of fundamental, applied medicine and pharmacy" and II International scientific-practical Olympiad "Aesthetic restoration skill in dentistry". Students and young scientists from medical universities and research institutes of Turkey, Malaysia, India, Russian Federation, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Republic of Belarus, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyz Republic and Uzbekistan participated in the international conference and Olympiad.

  Thus, the Minister of Higher and Secondary Special Education of Uzbekistan Abdukodir Tashkulov, Rector of Samarkand State Medical University Zhasur Rizaev, Chairman of Presidium of Medical Universities of Uzbekistan Botir Daminov, Rector of Baltic Federal University named after I.Kant Alexander Fedorov (Kaliningrad, Russia), Rector of Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D.Asfendiyarov Talgat Nurgozhin (Almaty, Kazakhstan), Rector of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Kazakhstan (Almaty, Kyrgyzstan), CEO of "Telemedicine Systems" Yuri Bogodukhov (St. Petersburg, Russia), Rector of the Privolzhsky Research Medical University Nikolai Karyakin (Nizhny Novgorod, Russia), Rector of Health Knowledge University (Istanbul, Turkey) Jevdet Erdol and other speakers noted the importance and significance of the events organised by SamSMU in expanding mutually beneficial international cooperation between universities, and wished successful performances and victories to all participants of the conference and Olympiad during the opening ceremony, which was held at Samarkand Regional Youth Centre.

  In order to expand international cooperation of Samarkand State Medical University, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between our University and Baltic Federal University named after I.Kant (Kaliningrad, Russia) during the conference.

  At the opening ceremony of the conference, Talgat Seitzhanovich Nurgodzhin, Rector of the Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov was awarded the title of "Honorary Professor" of Samarkand State Medical University for his contribution to the development of higher medical education in our republic.

  The next part of solemn event included exhibition of national dishes and national costumes which was organized for the guests of the international conference in the new building of the university. To the delight of all participants, students of SamSMU from Afghanistan, the Republic of Korea, Pakistan and India presented their national dishes and costumes. The guests of the conference also familiarised themselves with the facilities created in the new academic building and visited the university's history museum.

  The main work of the international conference continued in the sections such as Public Health and Humanities in Medicine; Internal Medicine; Cardiology; Current Issues in Neurology, Psychiatry, Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation; Pediatrics; Current Issues in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproductive Medicine; Current Issues in Experimental and Fundamental Medicine; Current Issues in Surgery and Urology; Current Issues in Pediatric Surgery; Current Issues in Neurosurgery, Oncology; Modern advances in clinical and basic pharmacology; Innovative approaches in Dentistry, Otorhinolaryngology and Ophthalmology; Modern Approaches to the clinic, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of Infectious Diseases; sections of the young scientists' competition at the 76th scientific-practical conference and the basis for the interactive development of colleges and technical schools. More than 270 reports were made by students and young scientists of 34 medical universities of the republic and abroad.

  The materials of the conference were published in a special issue of the international journal "Problems of Biology and Medicine".

  At the II International scientific-practical Olympiad "Mastery of aesthetic restoration in dentistry," the participants competed in three stages. The members of the international jury objectively evaluated the theoretical knowledge of the young researchers in the performance of the test tasks, oral answers to the questions and performance of the practical skills in restorative dentistry.

  As part of the international conference and Olympiad, the inauguration of the Samarkand State Medical University IT Incubation Center was held. Nowadays, the development of states is directly linked with the development of information technologies, and many countries in the world are focused primarily on creating favorable conditions to improve the entire IT-ecosystem. The opening of IT Incubation Centre at the University will contribute and stimulate the ideas of talented students and the creation of start-ups, as well as the processes of digitalization of the country.

  The 76th International Scientific-Practical Conference of Students and Young Scientists "Achievements of Fundamental, Applied Medicine and Pharmacy" and II International Scientific-Practical Olympiad "Mastery of Aesthetic Restoration in Dentistry" held at Samarkand State Medical University will certainly contribute to attracting talented young scientists and students to scientific research work and effectively use their potential and scientific research, further enhance the quality of teaching the fundamentals of dentistry.
