International seminar on publication activity and university publishing

  On April 14-15, International scientific-practical seminar titled "Publishing activity and editorial process in the higher educational institution: information technologies, analytical services and competence development" was held in the assembly hall of Samarkand State Medical University in collaboration with Elsevier Company. The seminar was attended by heads of departments, research associates and doctoral candidates of Samarkand State Medical University, as well as responsible scientists from other universities of the region.

  Elsevier is one of the largest scientific databases in the world, uniting more than 5 thousand publishing houses, 23 thousand scientific journals which are regularly used by more than 7 million researchers. The company's data serve as the basis for world rankings such as QS, THE, Global Innovation Index.

  Rector of SamSMU Zhasur Rizaev opened the seminar with opening remarks and pointed out the well-established cooperation of the university with Elsevier, noted the importance of scientific publications in top-rated journals as one of the essential requirements for a modern researcher and reminded fact that this aspect is an essential factor in rating the university in the international educational space.

  Kirill Ivanov, Elsevier Analytical Solutions Consultant, conducted the master class on the rules of selecting journals for publication and other skills to work with scientific sources, as well as publication ethics. The speaker focused on the tasks and challenges of higher education institutions, information resources and competencies of researchers, indexing of journals in the Scopus database, analytics in support of effective university strategy. The presentation also covered in detail the issues of search and selection of journals for publication of research results, methodology and modern requirements for scientific articles, as well as issues of citability, impact factor and other elements of scientific research.

  The seminar was held in an open discussion format and participants received detailed answers to all their questions.
