On December 16-17, Samarkand State Medical University hosted the 3rd International Olympiad for Medical Students "Samarkand 2020". Over 3000 students participated in the International Student Olympiad under the guidance of their more than 120 mentors in online and traditional format from 76 medical higher education institutions in France, Poland, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Belarus, Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Speakers at the opening ceremony of the III International Olympiad of Medical Students "Samarkand-2020" were Amrillo Inoyatov, First Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan; Jasur Rizaev, Rector of Samarkand State Medical University; Mahmadshoekh Kurbonali Gulzoda, Rector of Abu Ali Ibn Sino Tajik State Medical University (Dushanbe, Tajikistan); Alexei Shklyaev, Rector of Izhevsk State Medical Academy (Izhevsk, Russia),director of the Eurasian Research Center for Health and Social Sciences, Feyzioğlu Aynur University of Health Sciences (Istanbul, Turkey), Editor-in-Chief of the ANATOMICÁ journal Barno Ikramova, Rector of St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University Dmitry Ivanov (St. Petersburg, RF), Director of HRV - simulation" Arnaud Cosson wished victories to the participants and successful work of the international student forum.
The Opening Ceremony was followed by a "Contest of Greetings" for the participating teams of the Olympiad, as well as a "Start-up" competition for young scientists' projects. The presentations of the students and the presented scientific and practical developments were highly appreciated by the members of the international jury.
The main work of the Olympiad took place in 70 sections in almost all fields of modern medicine, including "Human Anatomy", "OSTA", "Physiology ", "Pathological Physiology ", "Pathological Anatomy ", "Forensic Medicine" , "English in Medical Communication ", "Medical Biology ", "Histology", "Pathology and Embryology ", "Microbiology", "Medical Chemistry", "Biological Chemistry", "Pharmacology", "History of Medicine" ,"Bioethics", "Surgery", "Neurosurgery", "Pediatric Surgery","Traumatology and Orthopaedics", "Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine", "Internal Medicine", "Propaedeutics of Internal Medicine", "Infectious Diseases", "Neurology", "Urology", "Radiology", "Oncology", "Ophthalmology", "Sports medicine", "Pediatrics", "Obstetrics and gynaecology", "Therapeutic dentistry", "Orthopaedic dentistry", "Surgical dentistry and CPR", "Pediatric dentistry", "Otorhinolaryngology". The selection took place in two stages, the participants solved test tasks, demonstrated theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The Olympiad was held in Uzbek, Russian and English.
The winners and active participants in the Olympiad were awarded 1st, 2nd, 3rd degree diplomas respectively, as well as diplomas in 12 different categories.
Feyzioğlu Aynur, Director of the Eurasian Research Centre for Social Sciences at the University of Health Sciences (Turkey), was awarded the title of 'Honorary Professor' of Samarkand State Medical University at the III International Olympiad for Medical Students 'Samarkand 2020'.
As part of the international Olympiad, 18 master classes were held by leading foreign specialists for the students of Samarkand State Medical University on fundamental and applied issues of modern medicine, scientific research methods and current issues of paediatrics and dentistry.
The 3rd International Olympiad for medical students "Samarkand 2020" held in Samarkand will undoubtedly contribute to involvement of young scientists and students in scientific researches and effective use of their potential, improvement of the quality of fundamental and clinical disciplines teaching and training of competitive staff, further development of practical healthcare in the country and further promotion of international cooperation.
