On the initiative of the Samarkand State Medical Institute, the II International Olympiad for Medical Students “Samarkand 2020” was held. It was attended by about 300 students of medical universities of Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Belarus and Turkey, as well as more than 2000 participants online.
The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Healthcare A.Inoyatov, Rector of Samarkand State Medical Institute Prof. J.Rizaev, Rector of the First State Medical University of St. Petersburg Academician S.Baghnenko, Rector of Bukhara State Medical Institute Sh.Jumaev, Rector of Tashkent State Dental Institute N.Khaidarov, Dean of Medical Faculty of Istanbul Medeniyet University Pençe Sadrettin.
The Olympiad was held on 30 basic and clinical subjects. In the first stage of the Olympiad, students tested their knowledge by solving tests, and in the second stage the students demonstrated their theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The Olympiad was conducted in Uzbek, Russian and English.
The creative works and projects of the participants were evaluated by a jury consisting of experts and professors from foreign countries.
Students who participated in the international Olympiad received certificates.
Rector of the First State Medical University of St. Petersburg, academician S. Bagnenko (Russia), Rector of Kherson State University, professor A. Spivakovsky (Ukraine), Rector of the Higher School of Business - Rector of the National University of Saint Louis Wozniak Dariusz (Poland), academician J. Kovalev participated personally in the Olympiad. The renowned academicians have conducted master classes for the senior students of Samarkand State Medical Institute, talked about current achievements and changes in the world health care system, important developments and requirements for a modern leader.
As part of the international Olympiad, Memorandums of Cooperation were signed between Samarkand State Medical Institute and Saint-Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University, Voronezh State Medical University, and Kherson State University in Ukraine.
On the same day, by the decision of the Academic Council of SamSMI, the Rector of the First State Medical University of St. Petersburg, Academician S. Bagnenko and Professor D. Butko of Saint-Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University were awarded the titles of Honorary Professors of SamSMI.
A student festival was also held as part of the Olympics.
