International Olympiad of medical students "Mastery of aesthetic restoration in dentistry" was held in Samarkand State Medical Institute on 16th and 17th of April 2021 in order to find and support young talents, to introduce students the scientific research activities, improve the quality of training of dental staff and also to develop international cooperation between medical universities.

  So, in view of certain restrictive measures in the pandemic period the International Olympiad was held offline and online. Students from medical schools in Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan actively participated in the competition.

  Wishes for success and farewell words were addressed to the participants of the Olympiad by Rector of SamSMI professor J.A. Rizaev, Director of Tokai Central Hospital, professor Yunichi Sakamoto (Japan), Rector of Saratov State Medical Institute A.V. Eremin, Rector of Privolzhsky Research Medical University N.N. Karyakin (Russia), Rector of Tajik State Medical University M.K. Gulzoda and Rectors and Heads of other Universities and Research Centers of the country and abroad.

  Participants of the International Students Olympiad, after passing the tests on the direction of the scientific competition, presented their oral presentations and their level of practical skills. In order to evaluate the performances of the participants in each stage of the Olympiad an international offline and online jury was working. According to the program a competition "The best research papers" was held, where presentation of research results of 6 students of participating universities was held.

  In view of participation of well-known local and foreign scientists-stomatologists in work of International Olympiad, the master classes were organized for the participants. In particular, the representative of one of the main sponsors of the International Students Olympiad, the head of the Ivoclar Vivadent's CIS and Baltic States Medical Department and an expert in microprosthetics and aesthetic restorations, Victor Daub, presented his scientific results during lectures on "Yesterday, Today and What Tomorrow? "and Professor Olga Yesenovna Bekzhanova, Head of the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry of the Tashkent State Institute of Dentistry, "The impact of coronavirus infection on the oral cavity organs".

  So, the second day of Olympiad was marked by awarding diplomas and memorable gifts to participants-winners of International Student Olympiad and their tutors.

  It should be noted that International Olympiad of medical students "Mastery of aesthetic restoration in dentistry" held by Samarkand State Medical Institute will certainly contribute to improving the quality of training of dentists and medical personnel in the republic, introduction of developments of fundamental medicine in the field of practical healthcare, improving the prestige of SamSMI in the world educational space, further strengthening of mutually beneficial international cooperation of higher medical educational institutions.
