A faculty of international education has been established at Samarkand State Medical Institute in September 2020 in order to actively engage in international educational space. A study programme of Medicine "MBBS" for the citizens of foreign countries has been launched, so more than 475 students have been enrolled in the current academic year. Majority of students, in particular, 374 of them are from Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The respective cooperation agreements have been concluded with such international companies as AXIS International Business Solutions LLC and Alsion-Grand LLC in order to attract citizens of this country to the institute.
On 26 May 2021, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mr. Syed Ali Asad Gillani paid a visit to Samarkand State Medical Institute.
The guests were received by the rector Jasur Rizaev and during the talks held in the atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding, the level of interaction between the two countries in the field of education was discussed. Jasur Alimjanovich told about conditions created for students from IRP on getting high quality higher medical education, accommodation, timely solution of current problems, warm and friendly relations between students and administration of the institute, expressed gratitude to the embassy staff for prompt solution of visa and other organizational issues as well as acceptance of SamSMIto a worthy place of medical board of Pakistan in future.
IRP Ambassador Mr. Syed Ali Asad Gillani thanked the Rector for his warm welcome and said that cooperation in higher education opens a new page in the history of relations between our countries. The ambassador told that many young people in Pakistan dream of becoming owners of the noble profession of physician, and it is no coincidence that many of them have chosen Samarkand State Medical Institute, the first medical institute of Central Asia. "Your institute", - Mr. Ambassador noted, - "is renowned for its well-established traditions in training highly qualified medical personnel, and I am confident that your capabilities and achievements will only be bolstered in the future". The members of the embassy expressed sincere gratitude for the conditions created for Pakistani students to learn the medical profession. At the end of the meeting a video on life of Pakistani students in the institute was shown to the guests, commemorative gifts were exchanged, and participants of the meeting were interviewed by mass media.
Thus, a meeting with students from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan was held in the large assembly hall of Samarkand State Medical Institute's Clinic No.1. Speakers noted the level of conditions created for students, great scientific potential of academic staff, encouraged all students to excellent learning and compliance with all the rules of the internal order of the Institute. The guests and the organizers of the meeting also answered questions raised by the students and wished them success in their studies.
This was the end of the official visit of the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Samarkand State Medical Institute.
