About the improvement of qualification of Samarkand State Medical Institute professors in USA

  Samarkand State Medical Institute is actively pursuing initiatives to establish cooperation with world's leading universities. During one of the international online conferences last year, it was discussed to initiate a partnership with Pittsburgh University, which is considered to be one of the leading universities of the United States.

  On May 21, 2021 a representative delegation of the University of Pittsburgh, including Margaret McDonald, Deputy Vice Chancellor and Leading Research Professor in field of Epidemiology at this institution, Michael Elnicki, Director of International Programs at Medical School, Professor of Internal Medicine and Salim Khan, Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs and Microbiologist, visited Samarkand State Medical Institute to establish partnership relations.

  Thus, the members of the delegation held formal talks with the management of Samarkand State Medical Institute. During friendly conversation the Rector of SamSMI, Prof.Jasur Rizaev told guests about the ongoing reforms in health care system, higher medical education in the country, noting the full support of the Republic's leadership to all innovations and changes in the modernization of higher medical education. Participants of negotiations noted mutual interest in exchange of experience in the field of academic process organization, conducting joint research, advanced training of SamSMI teachers in the American university, and formation of specific proposals for implementation of joint programs between universities. As a result of talks, a ceremony of signing Memorandum on partnership between Samarkand State Medical Institute and the University of Pittsburgh was held.

  Then members of American delegation visited the departments of obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, neurosurgery to familiarize themselves with education, research and treatment activities.

  It should be noted that the University of Pittsburgh, founded in 1787, currently has 17 colleges and schools, and over 35 thousand students are studying there from around the world. The School of Medicine of University of Pittsburgh is one of the leading medical schools in the United States and occupies the top positions in world rankings of medical universities.
