Samarkand State Medical University’s Cross-Sectoral Dialogue on the SDGs

Samarkand State Medical University (SSMU) is dedicated to promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through active participation in cross-sectoral dialogue. Recognizing that collaboration is essential for meaningful progress, SSMU initiates and participates in regular conferences, forums, and roundtables that bring together representatives from government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academic institutions, and industry leaders to address the SDGs from a holistic perspective.

  Annual SDG Conference

Each year, SSMU hosts the SDG Conference for Health and Education, a flagship event that invites key stakeholders to engage in productive discussions on sustainable development: Featuring panels and interactive workshops, the conference covers topics such as public health, sustainable education, environmental health, and social equity. Attendees share knowledge, research findings, and policy recommendations that support the implementation of the SDGs in Uzbekistan and beyond. Representatives from national ministries, regional health organizations, and international NGOs attend the conference, allowing for a diverse exchange of ideas and fostering partnerships.

  Regional Roundtables and Forums

In addition to its annual conference, SSMU organizes regional roundtables throughout the year to address specific SDG challenges faced by local communities:

Public Health and Community Welfare Forums: These forums bring together public health officials, community leaders, and medical professionals to address SDG goals related to health, poverty reduction, and social services. These dialogues are instrumental in developing community-focused policies and initiatives.

Education for All Initiatives: Focused on SDG 4 (Quality Education), these roundtables provide a platform for education leaders, NGO representatives, and government officials to discuss strategies for increasing educational access and quality, especially for underrepresented groups.

SSMU hosts workshops that build capacity and provide training for various stakeholders involved in SDG initiatives: These sessions are designed for healthcare workers, policymakers, and NGO staff to develop skills in sustainable practices, rural healthcare delivery, and public health awareness. In collaboration with local NGOs and educational ministries, these workshops focus on creating equitable access to education, addressing barriers such as gender, socioeconomic status, and location.

  International Collaboration for Sustainable Development

SSMU also engages in cross-border dialogue by participating in international SDG-focused conferences and forums: Academic and Research Partnerships: SSMU’s faculty frequently collaborates with international universities, sharing research on SDG topics such as infectious disease prevention, environmental health, and medical education access. NGO and Government Exchanges: By collaborating with both regional and international NGOs, SSMU fosters an exchange of best practices and innovative solutions that drive SDG progress.
